GMTS provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment. Geographic location is not a factor. We have openings for full and part-time MTs with a minimum of 3 years acute care experience on an ongoing basis.

Employment Requirements

All transcriptionists work from an off-site home office and provide their own equipment. Please see the minimum requirements below.

  • Windows 98 or higher
  • PC with Pentium processor
  • 32 megabytes of RAM acceptable, 64 megabytes of RAM preferred*
  • 2 gigabyte hard drive*
  • modem * (56K or high speed internet connection)
  • A Sound Card (SoundBlaster-16 or compatible)*
  • Uninterrupted power supply and surge protector
  • Ability to send and receive a fax
  • Internet access with browser
  • Email
  • WinZip or a compatible zip program
  • Telestaffing unit or transcriber with re-record capabilities or wav player with foot control instrument (may be account specific)
  • WP8 or lower, Word
  • Free serial port
  • Shredder
  • Personal reference library containing:
  • Medical dictionary, Dorland's or Stedman's
  • Current drug book, Quick Look or Drake & Drake
  • English dictionary
  • Abbreviation, acronyms, symbols book
  • Laboratory/pathology word book

*Please note: The above are minimum requirements; upgrades may be necessary for specific accounts.

Work Environment                                                                               


As all GMTS transcriptionists work in an off-site home office setting on their own equipment, it is very important each MT have a suitable work area, safe and neat and free from distractions. Every MT is responsible for the upkeep of their own work tools, and must show a fundamental working knowledge of the computer, including how to install basic software and routine file management. Policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality must be followed.

Employment Process                                                                           


Before being hired, an applicant must pass a set of test dictations. The test is graded on a 100-point scale using the GMTS QA guideline. With a minimum score of 96%, an interview may be requested. Upon being hired, a GMTS Style Guide, GMTS Employee Handbook, and GMTS Category, Level and Line Rate Guide will be given. New-hire paperwork must be completed. Benefits begin 90 days after the employee has begun full time.
